Engine Re-conditioning

Re-conditioned Engines

Abba Engine Reconditioners specialises in high quality reconditioning of your original engine as opposed to exchange engines. To ensure the quality of the engines we select parts on quality standard rather than price and use a quality control system during all machining and assembly processes. This involves a series of cross checks and recording of tolerances. Cylinder bore over sizes are minimal as each engine is individually assessed and not simply re-bored to a large enough oversize to clean up even the worst bore wear. Pistons are measured and each bore honed to size to suit each individual piston. We will use genuine gaskets and seals where possible as gasket and seal leakage is a common fault with reconditioned engines and we fine that genuine gaskets and seals perform better than cheaper replacements.

As a result of the fact that we use more expensive parts and take more care with the machining and assembly processes then consequently the engines are more expensive than exchange engines. We do not try to compete with the exchange engine market but rather offer an alternative to those customers who can understand the price/quality relationship and then choose the better alternative. The engines are covered by a 12 month 20 000km Statuary Warranty and with an extended warranty programme of 80 000km or 4 years, whichever comes first. This Warranty comes with restrictions.

On average we require 5 to 7 working days to recondition an engine however parts for some engines are not readily available locally and some delays can be expected for uncommon engines. Some delays can also be experienced if the original engine has parts that cannot be reconditioned, for example, a soft cylinder head or cracked engine block. In cases where parts cannot be reconditioned we have to procure second hand replacements and will do so at a minimum cost possible for you.

Cylinder Head Repairs

ABBA can provide a complete range of cylinder head repairs including alloy welding, straightening, valve seat cutting, valve re-facing, bead blasting, valve seat inserts including LPG inserts, valve guides including K-line bronze valve guides, milling surfaces, setting valve clearance shims, and thread repairs.

Our mechanics are trained to be able to remove and replace your vehicles cylinder head and associated parts efficiently and with a sharp eye for any faulty ancillaries.

Special LPG Cylinder Heads

Cylinder heads subjected to LPG operation tend to suffer from valve sinking into the valve seat due to the increased combustion temperature and lack of lubricating qualities of LPG. Cast iron cylinder heads without valve seat inserts are especially prone to valve seat recession. Some cylinder heads, especially those from unleaded vehicles, often have reasonable value and seat durability, however when the valves eventually fail, we can improve on the original valve and seat combination to further improve valve life.

Abba has been modifying cylinder heads to suit LPG operation for over 15 years and can guarantee our LPG cylinder heads will last for the long run. Our cylinder heads which suit LPG operation typically have a full set of K-Line bronze valve guides, Serdi LPG valve seat inserts, and tufftrided sometimes stellite faced valves.

Thread Repairs

ABBA can carry out many types of thread repairs including, broken stud removal, recoil thread repairs, key-sert thread repair bushing, and fitting oversize sump plugs.
